Raymond Williams: Then and Now Maria Elisa Cevasco

As a guest professor at the Independent Studies Program (PEI), Maria Elisa Cevasco will explore the significance of this somewhat enigmatic phrase by Raymond Williams from his book Culture and Society (1958). Throughout three sessions, Cevasco will talk about the difference Williams makes, the contributions of cultural materialism and how far Williams' thinking can take us in the current situation.

Maria Elisa Cevasco is a PhD in Linguistic and Literary Studies and Professor of Cultural Studies and English Literature at the University of São Paulo. His research topics include studies of culture, society, and materialist theory, with special emphasis on authors such as Fredric Jameson and Raymond Williams. She has published a large number of articles and book chapters in different countries. Among her most prominent publications are To read Raymond Williams (2001) and The Spirit of Porto Alegre (2003).
