With a degree in Fine Arts from the Universitat de Barcelona, Lorenzo Valverde lives and works between Cologne and Barcelona. His interests lie in the limits of painting, both as a material, physical practice and as a social device at the service of the ruling class. With an austere outlook, some of his canvases are folded, while others incorporate large chromatic zones, signs, incisions and mental landscapes: reflections on the essence of the pictorial act. Without abandoning painting and its material condition, he often turns his works into installations by adding projected images and objects in the manner of a stage design.

Exhibitions include those at Espai 13, Fundació Joan Miró, Barcelona (1990), and at Centre d’Art Santa Mònica, Barcelona (1991). Subsequently, his work has been shown in galleries in Cologne, Stuttgart, Barcelona and New York, as well as numerous group exhibitions, and is included in the collections of "la Caixa", Barcelona; Colección Banesto, Madrid; Tous Contemporary Art Collection; and MACBA, Barcelona.
