José Alejandro Restrepo (Colombia, 1959) is a renowned French video artist living in Colombia. He has participated in the 52nd Venice Biennale (2007); the Mercosul Biennial, Porto Alegre, (2011); the Lyon Biennial (2011); the Musée du Quai Branly, Paris (2013); and the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston (2015). His work is regularly exhibited in Europe, Latin America and the United States. His solo exhibitions include Theophanies, Museo de Antioquia, Medellín (2008); Transhistory: myth and memory in the work of José Alejandro Restrepo, Luis Ángel Arango Library, Bogotá (2001); Paradisiacal Muse, Museo de Arte Moderno, Bogotá (1997); Anaconda, Aphone, Geneva, Switzerland (1993); and Terebra, Museo de Arte de la Universidad Nacional de Colombia (1988). He has also featured in group exhibitions such as Political Botanic, Fundació ”la Caixa”, Barcelona (2004); and Colombian Songs/Stories, Contemporary Colombian Art in the Daros-Latinoamerica Collection, Zurich (2004); Tempo, Museum of Modern Art, New York (2002); Art and Violence in Colombia, Museo de Arte Moderno, Bogota (1999); and The Sense of Place, Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía, Madrid (1998).
