Public Photographic Spaces. Propaganda Exhibitions from Pressa to The Family of Man, 1928-55
This book is chronologically structured around twelve photographic exhibitions that took place from 1928 to 1955, including shows from post-Revolutionary Russia and America during the Cold War; German, Italian and Spanish exhibitions from the 1930s, and shows held at MoMA during the Second World War. Each exhibition is documented with a selection of images showing the exhibition spaces, promotional material and press reports, as well as later essays. The heterogeneous nature of the materials demonstrates the different degrees of recognition and discursive development of photography in the first half of the twentieth century.
