Carlos Aires was born in Ronda, Málaga, in 1974. He studied Fine Arts in Granada, Spain; Tilburg, Netherlands; Antwerp, Belgium; and Ohio, United States. He now lives and works in Madrid. His work incorporates photography, sculpture and installation with a fun and festive aesthetic behind which lies a content of social and political critique. He uses icons from the Spanish tradition, such as bullfighters and dwarfs, as well as images of historical and contemporary characters, together with other anonymous figures taken from the media, and incorporates written messages and musical references to popular culture that suggest poetry, beauty and denunciation.

Since 2000, he has participated in many group and solo exhibitions at galleries and institutions such as the Palacio de los Condes de Gabia, Granada (2002), Hitchcock Hall, Columbus, Ohio (2005), Aeroplastics Contemporary, Brussels (2007 and 2011), Centro de Arte Contemporáneo, Málaga (2012), Museo de Bellas Artes, Santander (2013) and Centro de Arte y Naturaleza, Huesca (2017). His work is in the collections of ARTIUM, Álava; Centro de Arte Contemporáneo, Málaga; Museum Biedermann, Donaueschingen, Germany; Museum für angewandte Kunst, Vienna; Centro Andaluz de Arte Contemporáneo, Seville; Fondazione Benetton, Italy; and MACBA, Barcelona.
