Introduction | | |
The MACBA Study Center, which is housed in the Convent dels Àngels, has been established with the aim of furthering the Museum's development. With this Study Center, the MACBA is extending its sphere of activity beyond holding exhibitions to act as a research center, a structure for dialogue and mediation, a social space and a point of diffusion. The creation of the Study Center has been possible thanks to an agreement reached between the Barcelona City Hall, the Catalan government's Department of Culture and the MACBA Consortium.
The Study Center consists of the following areas:
> The Center for Documentation is made up by two sections: the Library, which brings together the collections of the MACBA Library and the Catalan government's Alexandre Cirici Documentation Center, and the Archive, which comprises the documentary material of artists, creators and artistic collectives along with other types of documentation relevant for analysis and research in the fields that fall within the Museum's programmatic guidelines. Access to this material will gradually be made available to the public over the coming months.
> A series of lecture rooms that will be used for the regular programme of MACBA courses, workshops and seminars.
> An exhibition space to be used for presentations of material of special interest from both the Archive and the Library, thus complementing the Museum's art collection. |
